Research in SimCompanies
Research points are abstract resources generated at the Research Center and the Software Studio. Each category (plant, energy, mining, electronics, breeding, chemistry, automotive, fashion, aero and materials) has its own resource kind.
Unlike physical resources, points aren't sold to other players: you spend them on permanent bonuses (more speed, higher quality or lower input use) that apply across every building in that family.
That's why the implicit market price matters: if producing a point costs you more time and money than the bonus is worth, defer the investment until you have more scale.

You already have steady, profitable production in a category: pushing the Research Center amplifies those margins with permanent bonuses. It also pays off if you're about to scale into an advanced recipe whose next chain levels need more speed or quality to keep up.
You're still covering fixed costs or switching recipes every few days. Points take a while to produce and the bonus only pays back if your chain stays stable. If you're still experimenting, put floor space and capital into real production first.
